DJ Of the Month January 2014: Caroline!

What brought you to WRUV?

This past summer (the summer after our freshman year at UVM) a close friend and I decided to spend the summer in Burlington and sublet-ed a dingy, hole-in-the wall type apartment right near campus. One day while wandering around, I came across a poster advertising that DJ training was coming up for WRUV and I fell in love with the idea. I have some really cool friends that were/are fervently involved in college radio and I really wanted to be a part of that. The whole college radio culture and everything it stands for seemed perfect for me.

Tell us about your show — what do you talk about/what kind of music do you play?

I started listening to a lot of great music in high school, mostly inspired by small-town ennui and teenage angst. I guess I wanted my show to be a tribute to that, especially because I think it’s something that a lot of people can relate to. I play a lot of new music but I also play a generous amount of old favorites. Occasionally I’ll feature jazz covers of popular songs or relaxed Latin guitar music. I also think I might want to start reading amateur poetry on my show, that would be really cool.

Where did you get your show name?

One of my favorite songs all through high school was “A Teenager in Love” by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I’m also really interested in the limbo-like experience of teenager-dom and what it means to be in love with someone when you’re that age. There’s something really uniquely romantic about it, I think.

What do you like to do besides being a DJ?

I like cooking vegan food, drawing on my hands, and taking naps.
