DJ of the Month - August 2012
DYLAN
What brought you to WRUV?
I'd been listening to WRUV since high school, and I always thought it was the best radio station in town. I've always tried to listen to as many different genres of music as I can, and WRUV truly has it all. After high school, I went out of state for college for a couple years, and when I came back home, it seemed like the right time to join the WRUV crew.
Talk to us about your show--what kind of music do you play? Where did you get your show name?
My show is called "Rest In Fleece" and I play whatever I'm into at the time. The kind of stuff i'm into includes: rock/pop, roots reggae, dub, r&b/soul, funk, punk, post-dubstep (whatever that really means), afrobeat, etc. I try to construct my shows so that there is a seamless flow between a few different genres, so by the end of the show you will have listened to a variety of stuff but it won't necessarily feel like it. That's the goal at least; to some it may just sound like a schizophrenic mess of a show, but I like it that way!! As far as the name goes, I'm a big fan of plays on words and "Rest In Fleece" popped into my head one day and I liked it and it sounded cozy so I went with it.
If you had to choose an animal that best portrays you as a person when you're in the on-air booth, what would it be and why?
Some type of frog. I spend most of my time in the on-air booth just chilling and sitting down, but I'm prone to jump up, kick the stool out of the way and dance when the music tells me to (and then someone walks by in the hall and I awkwardly stop and retreat to my stool). Here's an analogy (SAT style) to help explain the me/frog comparison: a tasty fly : a frog :: a tasty groove : me.
Besides being a DJ, what do you do to keep busy around Burlington?
I play baseball with my friends in a men's league, I bowl, I go for bike rides, I go hiking, I go to shows, I read, I chill with my cat George, I play pickup basketball, and every once in a while, I'll put on my dancing shoes and go out and enjoy the Burlington nightlife.
