Cyclopeans self-titled debut EP is a mix of Jazz and Ambient with various world cultural influences. The tracks are quirky and have an edge of experimentalism but are coherent and have good beat hooks. The four artists collaborating on this album Irmin Schmidt, Jaki Liebezeit, Jono Podmore, and Burnt Friedman are all veteran musicians (Schmidt and Liebezeit formed the art-rock band Can) and you can hear this in the music. This is a solid debut, where seasoned artists can play and experiment with music and produce something that is on the edge of far out yet sounds and feels polished.
RIYD: Brian Eno, Peter Namlook
